Protection: this is the main function of check valves . But do you know what kind of protection we're talking about?
The main purpose of check valves is to protect hydraulic systems from backflow when pumps are shut down. Furthermore, albeit in a secondary role, they are also important for maintaining the water column during shutdowns.
There is a wide variety of Check Valves and the choice is based on their intended use.
Let's understand how they work?
They are generally installed at the beginning of the pipes, between the pump outlet and the valve. They protect the pumps from sudden shocks, which can result in the cessation of water flow due to a mechanical problem or a power outage.
It is important to install the Valve in the position where the door opens in the direction of flow.
Some valves contain bypasses, which allow the water that is retained to flow back when the pumps stop.
Types
1 – Double-leaf and single-leaf check valve
Its lid is screwed on and has a cast iron body. The ends are flanged and have a standard flat face.
2 – Bottom of well check valve
Its ends are flanged and its body is entirely made of cast iron. Its interior is made of bronze and its face is flat.
3 – Aero-type check valve
Its lid is screwed on and its body is made of cast iron. It has a stem with an external trapezoidal thread, flanged ends, and a rising handwheel.
4 – Piston type check valve
It has a screw-on lid and a cast iron body. Its face is flat and the ends are standard flanged.
