The gate valve is the most widely used manual shut-off valve in industry. The main feature of this type of valve is the small pressure drop when open.
It operates by sliding a disc or wedge through the fluid flow. The disc is actuated in the same way as a drawer in a cabinet.
Gate Valves should only be used as shut-off valves and ideally they should remain in the completely open or completely closed position, that is, to completely release or obstruct the flow.
The problem with leaving a drawer partially open is that it tends to vibrate with the fluid flow, and the flow changes occur near closing at a high speed, which causes wear on the drawer and its seat.
Regarding applications, they are recommended for use in industrial installations and also have domestic applications, produced in stainless steel, cast iron, metal alloys and bronze.
